Am I A Jerk Off?

NOTICE 

I originally posted here about a horrible customer experience with a company and its sales rep, who unintentionally copied me on an email which described me in offensive, vulgar terms. This occurred while the rep was trying to make me a client. While I feel I was wronged and justified for exposing the incident and a screenshot of the vulgar description of me, I’ve decided to remove the post for three reasons:

1. I don’t know the personal situation of the person who sent me the email in question, and I feel my post could cause disproportionate consequence

2. A few respected colleagues and friends convinced me that retaliation doesn’t make me right, nor does it make the world a better place

3. Although I was personally attacked and my blog is completely my own opinion and NOT representative of anyone else, I described a negative incident which occurred in my role as an executive of the company where I work, and that exposure doesn’t do the company I work for any good.

While I sought multiple opinions on this matter – from lawyers, to work colleagues, academics, mentors and industry peers – this decision is mine and mine alone. I’ve been involved professionally with digital and social media for over a decade, and one thing is clear: I’m still a novice, constantly exploring new territories and ethical boundaries.
