Joe Paterno’s Duty

If you’re a citizen of the world, it’s your duty to report to law enforcement any instances or rumors of sexual crimes. Especially when they involve children.

When you are granted an esteemed position of leadership, like that of Joe Paterno, the moral stakes and expectations are even higher.

It’s black and white.

Forty years of winning don’t matter.

In fairness, let’s let the facts surface before crucifying Joe Paterno.

But let’s also reject failures to report sexual crimes — especially among the leadership of educational institutions that supply predators with prey.

Now, let’s focus on people far more important: those sexually abused.

My friends and former colleagues Jerry and Jamie Needel (and others) founded Proud To Be A Penn Stater.

It is a campaign to raise over $500,000 for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.

As of this writing and within days of the campaign launch, they’ve raised over $300,000.
