Knight Rider Returns: A Historic Revival

Knight Rider

Yesterday was the best day I had all week. I learned that NBC is bringing back Knight Rider, the television series based on the the super-cool 1982 Trans Am, named KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), originally driven by crime-fighter Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff). Variety reports:

NBC is bringing back “Knight Rider,” tapping Doug Liman to produce a “Transformers”-inspired reworking of the 1980s hit action-drama series about a man and his indestructible supercar. Peacock is readying a two-hour backdoor pilot for the project, with tentative plans to air it as a telepic later this season. Liman is open to the idea of directing, assuming his feature sked allows. If the telepic clicks, a new-model “Knight Rider” could be on the air as early as next fall.

Knight Rider was my passion during its series run, from 1982 to 1986. I hope they bring it back and really blow it out. I just joined the Facebook group Bring back KNIGHT-RIDER. Knight Rider Online has a good page of related links.

In fact, I hope we see more machine-is-the-star resurrections from the good old days, programs like Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Street Hawk and the Dukes of Hazard.

  1. This is so COOOL! Every time I see David H. get himself into some sort of ordeal It always reminds me of the good old days when my bro and I used to sit in front of the tube and watch Michael and “KIT” do something sooooo cool! I even remember dressing up like Michael Knight for Halloween once. But, with my blond hair I was a much better Bo Luke. Daisy Duke was a hotty.

TV just is not the same. I wonder what my kids will grow up remembering as their favorite shows.
