I think you are right when you state that you will trust non-professional bloggers to be a gatekeeper to knowledge you are interested in staying in touch with.  And I think Jim Lehrer is right when he says publications can gain back some of their standing by being a gatekeeper in the new medium.  

Brand and reach do make a difference.  And once old media embraces new media more, as they are increasingly doing so.  I think those new entrants into the social media world will have an important impact because of their existing skills.</description>
