Stephen Baker, senior writer at BusinessWeek, was the featured guest last week at Interesting Café, one of our culture events at Clickable. Pulling themes from his new book, the Numerati, he shared how a powerful new endeavor — the mathematical modeling of humanity – is transforming every aspect of our lives. Steve sat down with me for a Q&A following his talk. My CEO David Kidder prompted the last question: “The age of the Numerati seems to be heralding greater horizontal knowledge versus deep vertical expertise. Are we better or worse off because of it?” Without explicitly saying it, Stephen’s response is a prelude to the Worderati, a breed of connected communicators who enable meaningful convergance among those with deep vertical expertise.
