Comment Of The Week: Peter Kim On Employee Termination

I think this extends beyond performance. That criterion makes a decision more objective and defensible (despite most people being employed at will), but even high performers need to be terminated sometimes.

I came across the idea of “emotional contagion” earlier this week – people who propagate negative emotional contagion should be terminated sooner rather than later as well.

I don't really know what employee termination means and I don't think I like the sound of it. "Even high performers need to be terminated sometimes?" - I don't think I share the same thinking, I am actually on the opposite side.

  • Gerry,
"Termination" is an ugly word. It's a life-less word that creates barriers
between businesses, managers, employees and customers. You're right, we
should get rid of it. Thanks for calling that out!
