Couples That Communicate

April 23rd, 2008  |

It’s often said that open communication is the key to a long-lasting relationship. I’m not sure how you’d classify this one, but tonight Laura and I communicated via email to plan our May 3 weekend. That’s not so strange except that I was on the third floor in my home office, while she was on the first floor in our sun room. The email thread went on for several cycles as if we were far apart — like on opposite coasts. There’s an implicit distance that comes with email, and it’s especially noticeable when email communication takes place with blood relatives in your own home, live.

A few years ago i was in a relationship with a girl from the jersey shore. Being from a small town in Vermont and not wanting to run up my cell phone bill i can relate to communicating through email and AIM. The internet isnt going anywhere and not has always been a forum for communication among people from diverse cultures all around the world. We have seen the home telephone come and go (most college students dont use landlines anymore and primarily rely on cellular phones) who knows in the future we might get rid of the cell and just communicate primarilly through the internet. now thats food for thought

My brother lives in New Jersey and his girlfriend is originally from Chile but her family currently lives in Japan. When she returns home to visit her family they have a difficult time communicating. They use AIM, email, and Skype, all of which use the internet. No phones are necessary which saves money and allows them to communicate throughout the day while at work, home or even using internet based cellphones. With the growth of technology it becomes easier for overall communication.
