The Poutine Is Great In Montreal!

October 10, 2006 · View Comments

My wife and I are on a "babymoon" in Montreal, Quebec this week — a quick getaway before Kalehoff Junior enters the world sometime in December. This is my first trip to Montreal, and I’m amazed that we’re only a six-hour drive from New York City. While I love Canada overall, Montreal really feels like a destination, truly another country. I’ve been practicing my French, which is poor at best. Highlights? Sure the Fall folliage is great — beautifal, in fact — but there’s one thing about Montreal I’ll never forget: the Poutine at "La Banquise 24H", Montreal’s hip version of a 24-hour diner. What is Poutine? Crispy french fries, smothered with gravy and cheese. The version I ordered below even had ground beef. Mmmmmm!

  • Funny, I was just up there on vacation last weekend! Would recommend a hike up to Parc Mont-Royal - great views of the city. Would recommend against most restaurants on Rue Crescent - overpriced and poor quality. Have fun!
